What is an IDN?
An internationalized domain name (IDN) is a domain name that contains at least one character other than the letters of the basic Latin alphabet (the 26 letters "a-z"), numbers 0-9, and hyphen "-". This enables the registration of domain names that contain accentuated characters as required by many European languages, or characters from non-Latin scripts (for example, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).
For example: eὓrodns.eu, eurödns.lu....
What is an ASCII Domain Name?
It’s common practice to refer to domain names that don’t contain accentuated character as ASCII domain name and IDNs as non-ASCII Domain Name.
What is the purpose of an IDN?
The vast majority of the world does not speak English as a primarily language. Therefore, registering and using a domain name in standard Latin characters may not be convenient for most part of the web users. With the introduction of IDN domains, much of the world's population can now use their native language and script in a domain name.
Under which TLD can I register an IDN?
More and more Registries are currently accepting IDNs and EuroDNS is committed to help you benefit from any Registry innovation available.
